Bio :

With no delusions of grandeur or disrespect intended, Boston DIY filmmaker Garth Donovan wants to be the John Henry of underground filmmaking...not referring to the son of beantown hero Ted Williams either. No, Donovan is talking about the great slave/railroad builder of the 1840's, who as legend has it, challenged a new steam drill to see if man or machine was more productive. In a fit bittersweet triumph, Henry won, but died shortly thereafter from exhaustion...

So maybe being a "fair weathered John Henry" might be a better way of putting it. After all, Donovan does in fact want to survive to keep doing what he loves more than anything (save maybe spending time with his mother, taking steambaths or rocking internet porn)...and that is make films.

In an age where the Hollywood machine has a vice-grip monopoly, marketing and shoving SLUSH PUPPIES down the public's throat, Donovan is on a mission to have his homegrown, personal stories seen by a larger audience...

Realizing that his brutally honest work might be a little too hard edged to immediately land a top slot at your local suburban multiplex, where legions of teenage girls with "JUICY" tagged across their asses run around, text, drink lattes, do anything but actually watch the picture anyway - Donovan is realistic about what beating Tinseltown's conveyor belt means and has sets his sights on winning an art house, limited engagement, internet based audience...

From the backyard, "we gotta remake HARD TO KILL again" school of filmmaking, Garth has always learned by simply doing. Since graduating from his teenage obsessed action pic ripoff days, he has gone on to create two feature films that taught him what a complete story requires, gaining critical success and dvd distribution via FILM THREAT in the process.

Sober over ten years, he is not into drugs or the wild life and prefers a simple, stable way of living. He pays the bills by working as a freelance editor and running his own interior / exterior painting company that many Boston production members turn to when the film industry runs dry or simply drives them too crazy.

At the moment, Garth proudly resides in his parent's basement, where he spins a lot of Van Morrison, Velvet Underground, Prince and Sade records. He is also extremely busy grinding out on his newest ambition: THE AMERCIAN TRASH TRILOGY a collection of three feature films all funded by recyclable cans and scrap metal(that he personally collects himself), all commenting on how American values are turning to trash.

With the first A.T.T. film in post and plans to shoot the second, summer 08' Garth is a busy man. However, if you really need to get in touch with him, word has it he can be found somewhere in the city, late nite Saturday, ripping it up classics like Little Red Corvette..or you can simply email him at okbreathe@gmail.com.
